UNION CAB OF MADISON COOPERATIVE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Resolution to Not Object to SEIU use of Greenbush Taxi Stand for Action & Statement of Solidarity with Nurses
RESOLUTION TEXT
Whereas, Union Cab’s mission is to create living wage jobs in a safe, humane, & democratic environment by providing quality transportation services
Whereas, Union Cab’s first core value is that the health and safety of our members and the public are of paramount importance
Whereas, Union Cab has a history of participatory solidarity in labor organizing, particularly on the local level
Whereas, Union Cab works frequently in collaboration with nurses and healthcare professionals in servicing medical rides and deliveries
Be it resolved that the Board of Directors will not object to SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin use of the Greenbush post for a taco cart in honor of Meriter nurses on Friday, May 6, 2022 at the conclusion of National Nurses Week. Members are directed not to call in complaints to the city regarding the nurses using the post on that day. Cab drivers on duty that day are encouraged to stop by the taco cart between 11am and 2pm to express solidarity and enjoy a taco courtesy of SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin organizer Victoria Gutierrez.
Union Cab will put out the following statement of support to the membership and the public regarding the SEIU action:
Union Cab stands in solidarity with Madison-area nurses seeking to strengthen their unions—and in the case of UW Health nurses, to regain their collective bargaining rights—following two years of particularly hard work and sacrifice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As fellow frontline workers concerned with labor solidarity, Union Cab recognizes the critical nature of the nurses’ effort and the importance of doing what we can to make space for their organizing.
